Skiers across the United States are experiencing varied conditions as the 2024-25 ski season progresses. Early snowfalls in some regions have given way to dry spells, leaving skiers waiting for fresh powder.

In northern New England, initial heavy snow was followed by a cold but dry period through December and January. Vermont's resorts, such as Sugarbush and Stowe, have seen consistent snowfall, prompting envy from neighboring states like Maine and New Hampshire. Jay Peak Resort in Vermont has reported over 200 inches of snow this season. "The season so far has been fantastic," said Andy Stenger from Jay Peak.

New Hampshire's Black Mountain is undergoing upgrades after being acquired by Indy Pass before the season started. Waterville Valley Resort also reports positive developments with nearly double the snowfall compared to other Northeastern counterparts.

The mountain states present a mixed picture; Utah and Colorado have had average snowfall after early storms favored Colorado. Wyoming's Jackson Hole saw beneficial December storms but remains below its usual snowpack level for this time of year.

Vail Mountain in Colorado opened much of its terrain early due to heavy November snowfalls. "It's been a great season so far thanks to a strong start," said John LaConte from Vail Daily.

California’s ski areas are facing below-average snowpacks but show improvement over last year. Palisades Tahoe celebrates its 75th anniversary with new investments despite not reaching record-breaking snowfall levels yet.

The Pacific Northwest began strongly but is now in a dry spell that could continue into February. Mt. Baker Ski Area opened early with significant terrain available thanks to substantial November storms.

As weather conditions can change rapidly, potential travelers are advised to monitor forecasts closely when planning their ski trips this season.
