Southwest Airlines plays a significant role in the intra-Texas air travel market, offering numerous flights across the state. The airline's presence is particularly strong at Houston Hobby Airport and Dallas Love Field, where it holds more than 90% of the market share. From these bases, Southwest provides extensive connectivity within Texas.
Houston Hobby Airport sees Southwest serving nine different destinations within Texas using Boeing 737 aircraft. The routes include high-frequency services to cities like Dallas and San Antonio, as well as less frequent flights to Amarillo and Lubbock. "The first of these is the 677-mile flight between Houston Hobby and El Paso Airport (ELP), a flight operated by the carrier more than twice daily on average each month," according to aviation analytics firm Cirium.
Dallas Love Field offers a similar pattern of service with flights to El Paso, Harlingen's Valley International Airport, Amarillo, Midland International Air & Space Port, Lubbock, San Antonio, and Austin. "From Dallas Love Field...the airline flies to Valley International Airport (HRL) in Harlingen significantly less often than it does from Houston."
