Pilatus Aircraft PC-12 | Wikipedia

Pilatus Aircraft, a Swiss company established in the late 1930s, has grown to become one of the leading manufacturers in the general aviation sector. Initially focused on producing Vickers Spitfire aircraft for the Swiss military, Pilatus shifted its operations to maintenance and repairs after an unsuccessful start. Over time, the company began designing its own aircraft for both general aviation and military use.

Among its creations are several notable models: the Pilatus P-2 and P-3 trainers, as well as the Pilatus PC-6 STOL aircraft and PC-9 turboprop trainer. However, it was in October 1989 that Pilatus made a significant impact with the announcement of the PC-12 at the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) convention. This versatile single-engine aircraft quickly gained attention for its high speed and range.

The PC-12's maiden flight took place in May 1991, followed by certification from both Swiss and U.S. aviation authorities in 1994. Since then, over 2,000 units have been delivered worldwide.

Several operators utilize this aircraft across various sectors due to its versatility:

North Star Air operates eight PC-12s from Thunder Bay, Ontario, providing charter and cargo services to remote destinations. Boutique Air uses a fleet of 21 PC-12s from San Francisco for commuter flights under the Essential Air Service program.

Tradewind Aviation runs 30 PC-12s out of Waterbury-Oxford Airport in Connecticut for scheduled passenger operations across the northeastern United States and into Caribbean regions. PlaneSense offers private charters with 44 PC-12s through a fractional ownership program based in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

In Australia, the Royal Flying Doctor Service employs 30 PC-12s to deliver medical care to remote areas. The Texas Department of Public Safety utilizes two PC-12s for law enforcement activities such as air patrol and surveillance.

Western Australia Police also operates two PC-12s for various policing functions across their vast jurisdiction. Ornge provides air ambulance services throughout Ontario with ten PC-12s based primarily at Thunder Bay and other locations.

The widespread adoption of the Pilatus PC-12 highlights its reliability and adaptability across diverse operational needs globally.
