New video footage has surfaced depicting the collision between American Airlines Flight 5342 and a US Army Sikorsky UH-60L Black Hawk helicopter over the Potomac River. The incident, which occurred two days ago, resulted in both aircraft crashing into the river. Recovery efforts are underway with cranes being utilized to assist.
The new videos provide clearer visuals of the crash from multiple angles. These clips, reportedly obtained by CNN, show the regional jet and helicopter colliding at low altitude before spiraling into the river. The PSA Airlines Bombardier CRJ700 was on approach to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport when it was struck side-on by the helicopter.
Rescue operations have shifted focus to recovery due to the severity of the crash and cold water conditions. Multiple agencies, including the US Coast Guard, are involved in this effort. According to CNN, 14 victims remain missing. A crane is expected to aid in accessing parts of the plane's fuselage that divers cannot reach safely.
