January brought a series of developments in the hotel industry amid challenging times for the United States, which faced severe weather and significant aviation tragedy. Despite these events, notable updates emerged from the hospitality sector.

Hyatt's lifestyle brand Bunkhouse Hotels introduced Hotel Saint Augustine in Houston's Montrose Museum District. The new property offers 71 rooms and suites, a Gulf Coast-style bistro led by chef Aaron Bludorn, and various amenities including a lobby bar and listening room. Currently, Bunkhouse properties are not part of the World of Hyatt program but are expected to be integrated soon.

In Los Angeles, plans to expand the Hilton Los Angeles/Universal City have been approved by the city council. Sun Hill Properties will add an 18-story tower with 395 guest rooms to meet demand ahead of the L.A. Olympic Games in 2028. This expansion aims to enhance accommodation options near Universal Studios Hollywood.

Rosewood Amsterdam is set to open this summer in a historic building dating back to 1665. The hotel will feature 134 rooms overlooking a UNESCO World Heritage-listed canal and offer exclusive activities such as private boat cruises designed by Studio Piet Boon.

The Omni PGA Frisco Resort & Spa in Texas is hosting its first festival, Savor, from May 1-4. The event will combine food, music, and golf with appearances by celebrity chefs and live performances.

Delaware North has rebranded the Squire Resort at Grand Canyon as Holiday Inn Resort The Squire at Grand Canyon. IHG One Rewards members can now earn points while staying near one of America's natural wonders.

Additional news includes booking availability for The Venetian Resort Las Vegas through Hyatt and Starwood's revival as a beloved hotel brand.
