Lufthansa is expanding its Airbus A380 network with the addition of Denver International Airport as a new destination. Starting April 30, the airline will operate A380 flights from Munich to Denver, marking the first time this aircraft type will be regularly scheduled at the airport. Previously, an Air France A380 landed in Denver in 2018 due to a medical emergency.

In 2024, Lufthansa offered daily flights from Munich to Denver using the Airbus A350-900, while United Airlines used the Boeing 787-9 for its daily service on this route. The introduction of the A380 will increase Lufthansa's seating capacity on this route from an average of 304 seats per departure to 506 seats.

The partnership with United Airlines, which has a hub at Denver International Airport, allows Lufthansa customers access to an extensive network of destinations. "Connections will be key in Denver," stated Lufthansa regarding their Star Alliance partner's influence on travel options.

This summer, Lufthansa plans to operate eight Airbus A380s. Data indicates that seven are currently active, with one undergoing maintenance in Manila. All these aircraft are deployed from Munich. Five out of six planned destinations for the summer season are located in the US; Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport is also included.

With more A380s reactivated, Lufthansa aims to increase its total weekly flights using this model from 18 last June to 42 by June this year. New additions include routes to Denver and Delhi with daily flights.

Cirium's data reveals that in June, Lufthansa's A380s will complete 12 round-trip itineraries each day compared to April when they operated eight weekday flights and nine on Sundays.

Lufthansa's third-quarter report highlighted delays in widebody deliveries leading them to extend their current fleet's service life. The carrier reactivated its sixth A380 last July and was preparing two more for operation during that period.

The airline maintains a reduced schedule for January but plans daily flights to Bangkok and Delhi with increased activity expected as March brings additional routes like Los Angeles International Airport into play.

Before COVID-19 disrupted operations globally, Lufthansa flew its double-deckers both from Frankfurt and Munich airports offering up till seventy weekly departures across various international destinations including Miami or Singapore back then as well.
