Delta Air Lines is set to broaden its presence in Australia with the introduction of flights to Melbourne starting this December. The new route will originate from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), marking Delta's third destination on the Australian continent.

The announcement was first reported by Ishrion Aviation and later confirmed by a spokesperson for Delta to The Points Guy (TPG). This new service aims to align with the peak travel season in Australia, occurring during the southern hemisphere's summer months.

Delta plans to operate these flights using an Airbus A350-900, featuring an updated cabin design. As described by TPG, the aircraft will have 40 Delta One suites, 40 Premium Select recliners, and 36 Comfort+ seats along with 159 main cabin seats. Flights are scheduled three times weekly during peak season, departing LAX at 9:25 p.m. PST and arriving in Melbourne at 8:15 a.m. local time two days later. Return flights will leave Melbourne at 10:25 a.m., landing back in Los Angeles at 6:10 a.m. PST the same day.

Melbourne will become Delta’s third Australian destination alongside Sydney and Brisbane from its Southern California hub. This new route offers U.S travelers another nonstop link to Victoria's capital city, joining existing services from Qantas and United Airlines.

Travelers can book tickets using SkyMiles or American Express Membership Rewards points, which transfer to SkyMiles on a one-to-one basis.
