British Airways has announced changes to its Airbus A380 schedule for the upcoming winter season. The airline plans to maintain seven daily departures from London Heathrow, consistent with the current winter operations.

Three destinations—Dubai, Johannesburg, and Miami—will see notable adjustments in service with the 469-seat, first-class-equipped A380 aircraft. "While BA's London Heathrow to Dubai link currently has the A380 (usually flown winter seasonally), it was not scheduled for next winter until now," the announcement stated. This route will have a daily A380 flight beginning October 26, alongside two daily flights operated by Boeing 777-200ERs.

Johannesburg will benefit from an increased frequency of double daily A380 flights due to it being summer in the Southern Hemisphere. "BA will increase Johannesburg frequencies to double daily on June 1 (the winter in South Africa)," according to British Airways' statement.

Miami will also see a return of double daily A380 services starting October 26. Previously, only one of these flights was scheduled as an A380 operation for next winter.

The airline's other routes using the superjumbo include Los Angeles and San Francisco, both maintaining their current frequency with additional support from Boeing aircraft on these routes.

"On a typical day next winter, BA's A380s will leave London Heathrow" at various times throughout the day with specific flights identified: Miami at 09:45 and 14:30; San Francisco at 11:45; Dubai at 12:40; Los Angeles at 15:05; and Johannesburg at 18:25 and again at 21:15.

Since its first revenue-generating service in August 2013 between Frankfurt and London for crew training purposes, British Airways' A380 fleet has become integral to high-premium and high-volume markets due to its significant seating capacity across different classes.

Apart from these developments, several long-haul destinations such as Boston still see seasonal use of this aircraft type during summer months. Meanwhile, others like Chicago O'Hare last saw it in December 2023 or Dallas/Fort Worth before transitioning services entirely by March end in favor of partner airlines within joint ventures.
