Arkia, Israel's second-largest airline, has introduced a new long-haul service from Tel Aviv to New York JFK. The route was launched on February 8 and will operate temporarily to offer lower fares in response to reduced competition due to the ongoing conflict. Arkia does not own widebody aircraft, so it leases an Airbus A330-900 from Iberojet for this route.
The aircraft features an all-economy configuration with 388 seats. Arkia uses its own cabin crew for the flights, although some reports suggest that Iberojet staff are also involved. The leased plane was flown from Madrid to Lyon before reaching Tel Aviv.
Flights are scheduled three times a week and are currently available for booking until June 30. However, with United Airlines returning in March and Delta Air Lines in April following a ceasefire, Arkia's operation is expected to be short-term.
