Southwest Airlines is expanding its network with new nonstop flights, including a route between Fresno and San Diego International Airport, as well as reviving the Austin-Jacksonville connection. These routes will launch in October, aiming to increase the airline's presence in key markets.
Starting October 2, passengers from Fresno Yosemite International Airport can fly daily to San Diego International Airport. "With the anticipated opening of a new terminal at the San Diego International Airport, Southwest Airlines will see several seasonal routes return to the schedule beginning Oct. 2, 2025," stated the airline. "The carrier will also begin daily nonstop flights the same day between San Diego and Fresno, Calif., and increase service between San Diego and Tampa, Fla., to Thursdays through Mondays from once a week on Saturdays."
This expansion marks an important development for Southwest in Fresno, where it already operates direct flights to Las Vegas, Denver, and seasonal service to Dallas. The new route makes San Diego the fourth destination served by Southwest from Fresno Yosemite International Airport.
