The Lufthansa Group has announced that members of its loyalty program, Miles & More, can now earn points on ITA Airways flights. This development is part of the ongoing integration of ITA Airways into the Lufthansa Group.

According to the group, ITA Airways became a member on January 17. "The number of Points is awarded on ITA Airways flights according to the same system as for the other Lufthansa Group airlines and the co-issuing Miles & More airline partners," said a spokesperson from Lufthansa Group.

In addition to earning miles, members of Volare, ITA's loyalty program, can also earn and redeem points on flights operated by Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Lufthansa, and Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS). However, this does not extend to leisure airlines such as Eurowings or regional carriers like Air Dolomiti.

On January 17, Lufthansa Group completed the acquisition of a 41% stake in ITA Airways. The transaction was approved by the European Commission in July after being reviewed by both stakeholders: Lufthansa Group and Italy's Ministry of Economy and Finance (Ministero dell'Economia e delle Finanze).

Dieter Vranckx, Chief Commercial Officer of the Lufthansa Group, commented on the rapid progress in integrating ITA Airways into their operations. He emphasized that loyalty is crucial for success in this integration. Caroline Drischel, Senior Vice President of Customer Journey at Lufthansa Group added: "For them [frequent flyers], the new opportunity to earn Points for Lufthansa Group frequent flyer status is a great benefit."

To mark this integration milestone, a promotion offering additional miles was launched. Passengers flying with ITA between March 1 and April 15 will receive extra miles based on their travel routes.

Moreover, plans were outlined for ITA Airways to leave SkyTeam and join Star Alliance by mid-2026. The process for leaving SkyTeam should be completed by April 30.
