LAX highlights artist Mark Bradford’s Bell Tower for Black History Month

Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) has announced the showcasing of artist Mark Bradford's "Bell Tower" sculpture in the Tom Bradley International Terminal in celebration of Black History Month. The announcement was made on X on February 6.

According to the Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) website, Mark Bradford, a Los Angeles-based artist renowned for his large-scale abstract works, created "Bell Tower" as a commentary on urban landscapes and social narratives. Standing prominently in the Departures Hall, the sculpture serves as a significant cultural landmark within the airport.

According to a statement from LAWA, the installation of "Bell Tower" aligns with LAX’s ongoing commitment to public art and cultural representation. The organization emphasizes that such installations are intended to enhance the traveler experience while showcasing artists from diverse backgrounds.

Bradford, born in 1961, has received widespread recognition for his work addressing social and political themes, according to the National Gallery of Art. His artistic contributions have earned him prestigious accolades, including a MacArthur Fellowship and representation at the Venice Biennale.

Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), the governing body overseeing LAX and Van Nuys Airport, manages one of the busiest aviation networks globally. Established in 1928, LAWA focuses on airport infrastructure, sustainability, and public art initiatives aimed at enhancing the travel experience, according to its official website.
