Qantas Airways | Qantas

Qantas Airways offers its passengers a variety of baggage allowances, which vary based on the class of travel and frequent flyer status. Notably, all Qantas passengers are entitled to free checked baggage, a policy that stands out in an industry where many airlines charge for this service.

For domestic flights within Australia, Qantas allows economy class passengers who are not loyalty members or only have Bronze status to check one bag weighing up to 23 kg. This allowance increases for higher-tier members, with Gold, Platinum, and Platinum One Frequent Flyers allowed two bags of up to 32 kg each. Premium economy and business class travelers enjoy even more generous allowances.

On international routes, Qantas determines baggage allowances by weight rather than the number of pieces. Passengers transferring between domestic and international flights on the same day can benefit from the international baggage allowance for both segments. However, no single bag can exceed 32 kg in weight.

Special rules apply for flights to North and South America where the allowance is determined by the number of bags rather than their combined weight. Economy passengers can check one bag, while premium economy and business class travelers are allowed two bags.

Additionally, Qantas provides accommodations for customers with disabilities: "There is no limit on the number of pieces of mobility equipment allowed to be carried...and it doesn't count towards the carry-on baggage allowance."

Passengers looking to bring more luggage than their allowance permits can purchase additional checked baggage. The costs vary depending on whether the flight is domestic or international.

In terms of hand luggage, Qantas' policies differ slightly between domestic and international flights but generally allow a personal item plus either a larger item like a wheeled suitcase or two smaller duffle-style bags.

Overall, Qantas offers flexible options catering to different passenger needs across its network.
