American Airlines has announced the return of its direct flights between Chicago and Honolulu, a route it last operated in 2021. The service is set to resume on October 26, using Boeing 787-8 aircraft. While the schedule details are yet to be released, it is anticipated that the flights will operate daily.

United Airlines currently serves this route with 11 weekly flights on Boeing 787-10 aircraft. United's schedule includes daily and additional services on select days, providing competition for American Airlines as they re-enter this market.

The resumption of this route is part of American Airlines' broader strategy to increase capacity and introduce new destinations from Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD). Ben Humphrey, Vice President of ORD Operations at American Airlines, stated: “O’Hare has always been a vital hub for American, connecting the Midwest to our global network and bringing travelers from across the world to Chicago for business and pleasure."

In addition to Honolulu, American Airlines plans to introduce several new routes this summer. These include international destinations such as Naples in Italy and Madrid in Spain, along with domestic locations like Bismarck, Boise, Colorado Springs, Spokane, and Hyannis.

The airline aims to offer up to 480 daily flights during its busiest season, representing a significant increase in both seats and departures compared to previous years. This expansion reflects American Airlines' commitment to enhancing its network connectivity from Chicago.

American Airlines will join Dallas/Fort Worth, Los Angeles, and Phoenix Sky-Harbour as US airports offering direct services to Honolulu. Meanwhile, Delta Air Lines also maintains a strong presence with numerous direct routes from various US cities.
