United Airlines Bombardier CRJ550s | Simple Flying

United Airlines operates a regional subsidiary, United Express, which covers shorter routes across the United States. These services are carried out by smaller regional jets through subcontractors. The United Express network is not an airline itself but supports United Airlines by connecting smaller cities to major hubs.

"All United Express flights are marketed by United Airlines or a partner carrier," and they play a significant role in the airline's operations, accounting for approximately 6% of its total capacity in 2023. The flights are operated under Capacity Purchase Agreements with subcontractors like CommuteAir, GoJet, Mesa Airlines, Republic Airways, and SkyWest Airlines.

United Airlines manages schedules, ticket pricing, revenue generation, and loyalty programs for these flights. It may also increase capacity on certain routes by offering both mainline and regional services.

Among the aircraft used by United Express is the Embraer E175. "The Embraer E175 is one of the largest regional jets in the skies today." This aircraft has been popular since it entered service with Air Canada in 2005. Updated variants introduced in 2014 improved fuel efficiency by around 6.4%.

Another aircraft operated is the Bombardier CRJ700. "This aircraft is operated by just one United Express subcontractor," SkyWest Airlines. The CRJ700 first flew on May 27th, 1999.

The Bombardier CRJ550 is among the newest models in the fleet and has gained popularity due to its features such as improved overhead storage and large cabinets. "The aircraft is one of the newest to join the United Express fleet."

Additionally, there is the Bombardier CRJ200, which remains one of the oldest models still in use within United Express' operations.

Lastly, there is the Embraer E170 which "is significantly smaller than the popular E175 model." It was first introduced into commercial service in March 2004 but ceased production as of 2017.

These diverse fleets ensure that United Express can efficiently serve its designated markets while complementing mainline operations under United Airlines' brand.
