Avelo Airlines will discontinue four routes, two each from Bradley International Airport (BDL) and Wilmington Airport (ILG), in the coming weeks. Despite these cuts, the airline's overall flight schedule continues to grow year-on-year (YoY).

Exiting two routes from Bradley-Hartford

As reported by AeroRoutes and confirmed by data from Cirium’s Diio Mi airline planning tool, Avelo Airlines will cease serving two destinations from Bradley International Airport starting in April. This includes flights to Concord- Padgett Regional Airport (USA) and Wilmington International Airport (ILM) in North Carolina.

Avelo Airlines began serving both routes with twice-weekly services in November 2024, becoming the only airline to do so at that time. However, in February, Breeze Airways entered the market and started flying from Bradley- Hartford to Wilmington International with twice-weekly services using Airbus A220-300 aircraft.

Breeze Airways’ A220-300s seat 137 passengers, while Avelo Airlines’ Boeing 737-800s can accommodate up to 189 passengers. Despite discontinuing these two routes, Avelo Airlines will maintain four other routes from the Connecticut airport. In April, it has planned eight weekly flights to four destinations: Cancun International Airport (CUN), Daytona Beach International Airport (DAB), Montego Bay Sangster International Airport (MBJ), and Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ).

Adjusting its network in Wilmington

Additionally, Avelo Airlines will exit two routes out of Wilmington Airport in Delaware. The airport has been exclusively served by Avelo since Frontier Airlines left in June 2022. Routes to Concord-Padgett and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) will be discontinued in March.

Flights from Wilmington to Atlanta and Concord-Padgett began in November 2024. This marked the second time since the 2010s that a carrier had served these routes; Frontier Airlines previously flew thrice weekly to Atlanta from Wilmington in 2014.

Similar to Bradley-Hartford cuts, Avelo operated these routes with a Boeing 737-800 twice a week. Despite discontinuing them at the end of February, beginning March, Avelo remains as the sole airline at ILG and plans on serving nine destinations with added five weekly itineraries YoY including Daytona Beach and Lakeland Linder International Airport (LAL).

Modest growth

Cirium’s Diio Mi data indicates that overall; Avelo should operate416 weekly itinerariesin March—a16.2% increase comparedto same month last year— resultingin capacity growth measuredby available seat kilometers(ASK)by17 .8% YoY .
