Federal Express Corporation (FedEx), one of the world’s largest express transportation companies, announced the launch of its Collaborative Shipping Tool in Malaysia on February 24, 2025. This digital tool aims to simplify the import process for customers by enabling seamless collaboration during Airway Bill (AWB) creation between importers and shippers, thus enhancing overall efficiency in global goods movement.

Global merchandise trade is expected to increase by 3%, with imports in Asia projected to grow by 5.1% in 2025. According to a study by the International Trade Centre, failed pickups and lack of shipment visibility are among the top challenges faced by importers globally. These inefficiencies highlight the need for digital solutions like the Collaborative Shipping Tool.

The new tool allows importers to share the AWB creation process directly with shippers, enabling them to confirm shipment details and schedule pickups based on their readiness. This feature is designed to improve the success rate of shipment pickups, ensuring greater efficiency in the import journey.

“As global supply chains grow increasingly complex, businesses must adopt smarter logistics solutions to remain competitive,” said Salil Chari, senior vice president of Marketing and Customer Experience at FedEx Asia Pacific. “At FedEx, we’re leading the way by leveraging digital innovation to help our customers anticipate challenges and navigate the changing marketplace. The Collaborative Shipping Tool fosters seamless collaboration between importers and shippers, allowing businesses to optimize their supply chains and reduce inefficiencies. ”

“FedEx is constantly innovating advanced logistics solutions to help businesses thrive in a rapidly evolving trade landscape,” said Tien Long Woon, managing director of FedEx Malaysia. “For many Malaysian businesses, enhancing efficiencies in their cross-border trade and navigating the complexities of imports are critical. ”

Key benefits of the Collaborative Shipping Tool include:

- Seamless Collaboration & Enhanced Flexibility: Importers can share AWB creation with shippers who can confirm or edit package details and provide pickup dates based on availability.

- Improved Visibility: Importers gain real-time insights into the pickup process for greater transparency.

- Enhanced User Experience: The intuitive design makes it easier for both importers and shippers.

The Collaborative Shipping Tool is available to all FedEx import customers in Asia Pacific, Europe, United States, Canada, Middle East, Indian Subcontinent, and Africa. This addition complements other digital solutions like the upcoming FedEx Import Tool which will further simplify managing import shipments.
