Gulfstream G280 | Wikipedia

The Gulfstream G280 is a twin-engine mid-sized business jet designed by Gulfstream Aerospace and built by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI). The two companies collaborated in 2005 to develop a successor to the Gulfstream G200, aiming to improve the wing, engines, cabin, and cockpit. Initially named G250, the aircraft performed its maiden flight in December 2009 in Tel Aviv, Israel.

In July 2011, Gulfstream renamed it G280 due to cultural considerations related to number sequences in some cultures, particularly Asian. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certified the type in September 2012, enabling first deliveries to customers. The price of a new Gulfstream G280 is $24.5 million; however, with exterior paint and cabin upgrades included, this cost may rise to approximately $29.5 million.

Operating costs for the Gulfstream G280 range between $1.2 million and $1.9 million annually depending on usage. Besides the initial capital cost of acquiring the aircraft, there are fixed costs and direct operating costs. Fixed costs include aircraft storage, insurance, jet management, and crew expenses, totaling approximately $550,000 per year.

Direct operating costs encompass fuel expenses, airport landing and handling fees, and aircraft maintenance including engine maintenance. These costs vary based on usage; for instance, flying for 200 hours annually can cost around $450 ,000 while flying for400 hours can escalate these costs to as high as $875 ,000.

According to Gulfstream Aerospace:

“Created to reimagine super-midsize performance,” said Gulfstream Aerospace. “The G280 excels at blazing difficult trails... making nimble work of short runways [and] high-altitude airports.”

The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) noted:

“Gulfstream widely known for its long-range large-cabin business jets is recasting its position in the super-midsize market.”
