Delta Air Lines operates a significant fleet of Boeing 737-900ERs, the largest in the world with 163 units. Despite its size, New York's John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK) sees limited use of this model due to Delta's strategy of deploying newer Airbus A321neos for more frequent and longer routes.

The Boeing 737-900ER is utilized by Delta in three roles: "high-utilization," "mid-utilization," and "low-utilization." Newer planes are used extensively on longer routes, while older aircraft fly primarily during high-traffic days. According to Cirium, an aviation analytics company, Delta operates the Boeing 737-900ER on 13 routes from New York-JFK as of March.
