In 2024, over 120,000 roundtrip passengers traveled between the United States and Russia, despite sanctions prohibiting nonstop flights due to the Ukraine war. This figure translates to approximately 329 daily travelers, a significant decrease from pre-war numbers.

"For obvious reasons, there are few discussions about Russian travel," said the report. It highlighted that while direct flights are banned, people still fly indirectly but not via the EU or UK, where Russian flights are also prohibited.

The data is based on those who booked through tickets; hence, the actual number may be higher as some might have booked separate legs of their journey.

Turkish Airlines emerged as the dominant carrier in this market, transporting around 76,000 passengers—over sixty percent of the total. Other notable carriers included Qatar Airways, Emirates, Royal Air Maroc, Uzbekistan Airways, Air Serbia, Etihad Airways, and EgyptAir.

Turkish Airlines' dominance was attributed to its service to fourteen U.S. airports and three in Russia. "No matter the carrier," said the report, "passengers flew far out of their way," often facing high fares due to limited options.

Greater NYC to Greater Moscow was identified as the most popular route with around 33,000 passengers. Turkish Airlines led this market too; however, Uzbekistan Airways replaced Qatar Airways in second place for this specific route.
