If you're flying out of Tampa International Airport's (TPA) Airside E, you'll soon see a new security checkpoint as the anticipation of the spring break travel season is fully underway.

Shorter security wait times

Coming in at 19,542 square feet (or roughly the size of seven average-sized US homes combined), Tampa's newest renovated security check area comes as a big improvement to Airside E, which was re-opened after renovations prior to the establishment of the Transportation Security Agency (TSA) in 2002. Passengers flying through the TPA airport facility, which is primarily home to Delta Air Lines, Frontier Airlines and Air Canada flights, can expect shorter security wait times with an additional screening lane.

On top of this, the novel security area will feature the latest state-of-the- art screening technology. That's right. No more surrendering your shoes to the security scanner and walking on the dirty airport floor to clear security.

At the ribbon-cutting ceremony announcing the end of the project, Tampa International Airport CEO Joe Lopano praised the teamwork involved in the renovation of the security area into what it is now. He's happy to open the checkpoint later this week ahead of what is expected to be the airport's busiest travel season of the year.

"With our busy Spring Break travel period kicking off this month, this is a great time to be able to celebrate th opening of this checkpoint...The fast- paced growth at TPA in recent years led us to right-size th space t modernize an enhance traveler safety an security thanks t th dedication f all th partners in this project," said Lopano.

For reference, TPA airport is projected to see just over 3.3 million passengers pass through its doors from March 1st to April 6th alone.

Joining Mr. Lopano at th ribbon-cutting event was U.S Representative Laurel Lee representing a group f Tampa Bay Congressional delegates wh played a role in getting funding for th now-finished airport security improvement project.

"What pleasure it was t see months f hard work come t fruition today at Tampa International Airport...I am proud t have played part in securing funding for th new TSA security screening equipment at TPA t help streamline an improve th security process an ensure residents an visitors can travel safely an efficiently," said Lee. "The Tampa Bay Area has seen monumental growth in recent years an I am excited t keep working t invest in technology an infrastructure that supports th growth f our entire region.."
