Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) has announced that the Los Angeles City Council has approved a $5 billion Multiple Award Task Order Contract (MATOC) to facilitate design-build and construction services for upcoming airport infrastructure projects. This announcement was shared on LAX’s official X account on February 19.
The newly approved MATOC is LAWA's largest procurement contract to date, assembling a pool of 31 pre-qualified design-build and construction contractors. According to its website, the five-year contract includes 13 first-time prime contractors and emphasizes participation from small and local businesses.
According to LAWA, the contract is expected to accelerate modernization efforts at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Van Nuys Airport (VNY). The streamlined procurement process will allow for faster execution of infrastructure projects, particularly in preparation for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
