American Airlines has expanded its Caribbean reach, now serving 43 Caribbean airports. According to Cirium Diio data, American Airlines operates one in ten of the region's services, a figure that rises to nearly one in four (23%) for all US-Caribbean flights. This makes it the leading short-haul international operator in the US, bolstered by its strong network connections to Mexico and Canada.
On March 15, American Eagle inaugurated its first service from Miami to South Caicos. This flight marks the first US link to South Caicos. According to the Turks and Caicos Islands government, South Caicos is the country's fourth most populous island but ranks seventh by area.
The route was initially scheduled to start on February 15 but was shifted due to significant infrastructure redevelopment at South Caicos Airport. The twice-weekly flights are operated by Envoy Air's Embraer E175s, covering a distance of 546 nautical miles each way.
