Wizz Air's network has undergone significant changes with the introduction of its A321XLR aircraft. The Wizz Air Group, comprising four units: Wizz Air Abu Dhabi (5W), Hungary (W6), Malta (W4), and UK (W9), currently operates a fleet of 227 aircraft, including the A320ceo, A320neo, A321ceo, and A321neo. Nearly two-thirds of this fleet consists of the A321neo, crucial for reducing seat- mile costs to support lower fares.

The first A321XLR is set to join Wizz Air's fleet in the coming days. This initial aircraft will be registered as G-XLRA with its UK unit and feature an XLR sticker. The second aircraft will be destined for Wizz Air Malta as 9H- XLA. These XLRs will have an all-economy configuration with 239 seats, similar to existing A321neos.

"As such, their potential range will be reduced," said the Group's CEO, who noted that these planes would operate routes with block times of seven to eight hours. Most currently planned XLR routes fall within this range.

The new variant is expected to play a pivotal role in expanding Wizz Air's longest routes by enabling longer flights while carrying more baggage and mitigating winter wind impacts.
