The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has issued its preliminary report on a runway incursion incident involving Southwest Airlines and a Flexjet aircraft in Chicago, Illinois. The investigation focuses on the events at Chicago Midway International Airport (MDW) on February 25.
According to the NTSB, the incident involved a Flexjet Bombardier Challenger 350, registered as N560FX, and a Southwest Airlines Boeing 737-800, registered as N8517F. The Challenger 350 was crossing runway 31C just as the Southwest Airlines flight was attempting to land.
The report states that visibility at the time was better than 10 statute miles (16 kilometers). The Challenger 350 carried one passenger and two crew members while the Boeing 737-800 had 136 passengers and six crew members onboard. The private jet passed less than 200 feet (60.9 meters) behind the commercial jet.
