United Airlines has canceled its planned service between Los Angeles and Toronto, just two months before it was set to begin. The route, which was scheduled to start on May 22, 2025, has been removed from the United Airlines’ website despite still appearing on Cirium, an aviation analytics platform.

Ishrion Aviation highlighted the development on social media. When approached for comment, United responded: “United doesn’t have anything additional to add or relay beyond what’s been made available to the public regarding the matter. ”

The Los Angeles-Toronto route was added quietly to United's network earlier this year without major announcement. Tickets had been available for purchase, with plans to use Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft for the flights. A spokesperson previously said that this service would complement existing flights by Air Canada.

Currently, two Canadian airlines operate between Los Angeles and Toronto – Air Canada and Porter Airlines. Air Canada dominates with over 200 return flights scheduled this month alone.

Despite pulling out of this route, United maintains a partnership with Air Canada. Customers can book flights operated by Air Canada through United’s website as part of their joint venture agreements covering various regions including North America and Europe.

These partnerships offer benefits such as coordinated reservation processes, baggage transfers, and loyalty point collection across both airlines under the Star Alliance network.

Route adjustments are not uncommon in the airline industry. For instance, Delta Air Lines recently announced changes within its network; suspending its intra-Texas route between Austin and Harlingen while reintroducing a seasonal service from Atlanta to Fargo.
