American Airlines Boeing 737-800 | Official Website

American Airlines relies heavily on the Boeing 737-800, which constitutes approximately 30% of its fleet. According to ch-aviation data, the airline currently operates 303 Boeing 737-800 aircraft with an average age of 15.4 years. This makes them slightly older than the fleet-wide average of 13.5 years.

The majority of these planes are active, with only 15 undergoing maintenance or stored. The Boeing 737-800 is a popular model globally, being the best- selling version of Boeing's Next Generation series.

American Airlines' Boeing 737-800s, designated as 737-823 due to customer codes introduced by Boeing in 1956, were delivered between February 1999 and December 2017. All orders were placed before American Airlines' merger with US Airways in 2015, classifying them as 'legacy' aircraft.

The airline is the world's largest operator of this model, significantly outpacing other carriers like Ryanair and Southwest Airlines. Other notable operators include United Airlines and Delta Air Lines.

Historically, American Airlines has operated a total of 305 Boeing 737-800s. One aircraft was written off after a crash in Jamaica in December \[\[2009\]\], while another was retired and broken up by \[\[2022\]\].

All current Boeing \[\[737\]\]-800s are configured with \[\[172\]\] seats across two travel classes: domestic first class and economy class. Domestic first-class seats offer dimensions such as a \[\[37\]\]-inch pitch and \[\[20\]\]-inch width but lack personal IFE screens. Economy class includes Main Cabin Extra options for added legroom.

This year, American Airlines plans to operate \[\[425,589\]\] flights using its Boeing \[\[737\]\]-800 aircraft, marking a slight increase from \[\[2024\]\].\_\_ Most flights serve domestic routes within the United States; however, some international destinations are also covered.

Notably, Miami International Airport (MIA) to José Martí International Airport (HAV) in Havana, Cuba is among the top international routes served by American 's Boeing \[\[737\]\]-800s. Domestically,\_\_ routes range from short distances like Chicago O'Hare to Grand Rapids to longer transcontinental flights such as New York JFK to Las Vegas Harry Reid International.

Recently,\_\_ an incident involving an American Airlines Boeing \[\[737\]\]-800 occurred at Denver International Airport (DEN), where the aircraft caught fire at gate C38 following a diversion.\_\_ Despite such incidents,\_\_ the model remains integral to American' s operations due to its versatility and reliability on both short-haul and mid- haul routes.
