Cathay Pacific and Finnair have expanded their codeshare network, with Finnair's operated flights adding Cathay Pacific's codes on routes to Brussels, Munich, and Rome.

As reported by AeroRoutes and confirmed by data from aviation analytics company Cirium's Diio Mi airline planning tool, Finnair's flights from Helsinki Airport (HEL) to Brussels Airport (BRU), Munich Airport (MUC), and Rome Leonardo da Vinci Fiumicino Airport (FCO) will now carry Cathay Pacific's flight code starting in June.

This expansion means that Cathay Pacific's codeshare network with Finnair in Europe will now include nine destinations originating in the Finnish capital, encompassing several major European cities.

The total codeshare agreement will cover 81 weekly flights, including up to 35 weekly departures from Helsinki to London Heathrow Airport (LHR) in June.

Of the nine codeshare destinations, Cathay Pacific flies to all with its own aircraft. However, the codeshare agreement allows for more passenger choices without significant risk since Finnair will operate these connections via Helsinki.

Finnair has scheduled daily flights to Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) during the month, while Cathay Pacific has no direct connections to Helsinki.

Meanwhile, Cirium's Diio Mi data also revealed a significant codeshare network outside of Hong Kong between the two oneworld alliance members.

Outside of Hong Kong, Finnair's code appears on Cathay Pacific's flights to eight destinations, including four in Australia: Brisbane Airport (BNE), Melbourne Airport (MEL), Perth Airport (PER), and Sydney Airport (SYD) in June.

Finnair's Asia-Pacific network includes ten destinations in June. The codeshare agreement with Cathay Pacific overlaps on two destinations—Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) and Singapore Changi Airport (SIN)—and naturally, Hong Kong.

In its annual report, Finnair stated its goal is to be a modern Nordic airline allowing customers to tailor their journeys as part of its latest strategy set for implementation by the end of 2025.

The Finnish carrier emphasized utilizing joint businesses with airline partnerships such as the Atlantic Joint Business (AJB) and Siberian Joint Business (SJB), both involving oneworld-focused ventures.

The AJB began in 2010 and includes networks of Aer Lingus, American Airlines, British Airways, Finnair, Iberia, and LEVEL. It remains unclear whether LEVEL, which recently gained its own air operator’s certificate (AOC), will remain part of AJB.

"This highlights the role of oneworld partners," said a representative from Finnair. "Such as American Airlines and Alaska Airlines in North America, Qatar Airways in the Middle East, Japan Airlines on routes to Japan; and Qantas on new routes connecting Australia and Asia which Finnair operates. "

Finnair concluded that these partnerships provide customers with an extensive global network while strengthening its distribution power globally.
