British Airways Boeing 787s | Official Website

British Airways' long-haul fleet now primarily consists of long-range widebody twinjets, including older Boeing 777s and newer 787s and Airbus A350s. With multiple variants in its fleet, the UK flag carrier can serve a wide variety of long-haul destinations in terms of range and demand. However, for higher-demand corridors from its Heathrow hub, it employs the Airbus A380.

The Airbus A380, configured by BA to seat 469 guests, has been optimized to serve high-demand long-haul destinations despite global challenges with its economic viability. In April, all A380 routes will be served at least daily.

According to Cirium data, British Airways has scheduled a total of 480 flights in April 2025. These services will offer collectively225,120 seats and over one billion available seat miles (ASMs), representing a slight decrease compared to March's figures.

One notable route is the double daily service between London Heathrow Airport (LHR) and San Francisco International (SFO). This April sees an increase to 60 flights in each direction compared to March's33 flights.

In April2025, British Airways will face competition from United Airlines and Virgin Atlantic on the transatlantic route between Heathrow and San Francisco. United Airlines operates three daily flights using Boeing777 aircraft while Virgin Atlantic has scheduled33 flights each way with the787-9.

The US market remains key for BA's A380 operations. Alongside San Francisco, four other American destinations - Boston Logan International Airport (BOS), Washington Dulles Airport (IAD), Miami International Airport (MIA), and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) - will see daily services from London Heathrow using the superjumbo.

Beyond the United States, British Airways also flies its Airbus A380s to O.R. Tambo International Airport(JNB)in Johannesburg South Africa, and Singapore Changi Airport(SIN).The Johannesburg route faces competition only from Virgin Atlantic which operates daily with its Boeing787-9 Dreamliner.BA offers first-class seats as well,on this route.

The Heathrow-Singapore route is interesting because both competitors,Qantas, and Singapore Airlines also use their own versions of AirbusA3for this service.Qantas will operate30 rotations while Singapore Airlines serves twice-daily with bothA3and77aircraft

British Airways currently operates12AirbusA3aircraft,making it Europe's largest operator following Air France's withdrawal amid COVID-19 pandemic onset, and Lufthansa flying just eight. The average age of these planes stands at10 .9 years slightly below carrier-wide mean11 .8 years.Ten outof twelve are active while two undergo maintenance one atHeathrow another Manila
