Delta Air Lines | Official Website

Delta Air Lines, headquartered in Atlanta, stands as one of the largest and most significant carriers in the United States. Operating on a legacy business model, Delta primarily serves business travelers navigating between cities across the nation and globally, facilitating connections through its major hubs. The airline boasts nine operational hubs, with Atlanta Hartsfield- Jackson International Airport (ATL) being the largest.

Including its regional subsidiaries and contracting partners under the Delta Connection brand, the airline operates over 5,400 daily flights from these hubs, serving more than 320 destinations across 52 countries on six continents.

The carrier holds the distinction of being the oldest airline still operating in the United States and ranks as the seventh-oldest worldwide. Although it does not transport the most annual passengers or have the highest scheduled seat capacity—a title held by American Airlines—Delta is recognized as the world's largest airline based on several metrics. It generates more revenue than any other carrier and consistently ranks highest by brand value.

Throughout its history, Delta Air Lines has achieved rapid growth through strategic expansion and refining operations at its hubs to ensure efficient passenger connections to final destinations.

The organization's hub-and-spoke network focuses on connecting business travelers between major hubs. Some facilities primarily serve as connection points for passengers traveling between different destinations, while others are destinations themselves.

In addition to ATL, Delta has three major hubs in the American Northeast: LaGuardia Airport (LGA) serves as a principal domestic business travel gateway; John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) caters mainly to international travelers; Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) functions as a key hub for both domestic and international business travel.

Outside this region lie two Upper Midwest hubs: Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) and Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport (MSP), both serving cross-country travelers extensively. Despite having just one Southern hub at Atlanta-Hartsfield Jackson—which remains pivotal within their network—the carrier maintains multiple Western U.S. hubs:

- Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)

- Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA)

- Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC)

LAX and SEA cater predominantly to transpacific and transcontinental business travelers with premium routes linking these cities to Northeast counterparts like JFK or BOS whereas SLC emerges as a popular leisure destination year-round.

Notably absent from Delta's route network are major cities such as Chicago San Francisco Washington D.C., which lack significant presence despite being critical nodes for global commerce alongside Texas where limited operations exist too.
