At the 2025 Airbus Summit in Toulouse, Airbus unveiled its future plans for a new single-aisle aircraft. The European manufacturer aims to introduce this aircraft in the second half of the 2030s. Bruno Fichefeux, Head of Future Programs at Airbus, stated: "Every second, an Airbus aircraft takes off – connecting people, cargo and business around the world. We have the most advanced aircraft portfolio in the market... Now we are taking the best of what we’ve done and preparing for another jump to make our single-aisle aircraft even better and pioneer the future of flight when the time is right."

The company is focusing on several technological advancements for this new plane, including open-fan rotor engines developed with CFM. Mohamad Ali from GE Aerospace highlighted that these engines could offer up to 20% fuel burn savings compared to current technologies.

Airbus is also working on innovations under its Wing of Tomorrow program. Sue Partridge explained: "By making these wings aerodynamically more efficient... we can make big gains in fuel efficiency." However, she noted challenges with fitting these longer wings into existing airport infrastructure.

The new single-aisle jet will be part of ongoing hydrogen-related projects while ensuring compatibility with 100% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). This aligns with Airbus' commitment to sustainability as it continues developing its delayed ZEROe hydrogen aircraft project.
