Ryanair has launched a new membership scheme called "Ryanair Prime," after first announcing plans for such a program in 2019. The low-cost airline, known for its controversial marketing tactics, offers the membership at £79 or €79 ($102.30/$85.42) annually.

The Ryanair Prime membership provides four main benefits: access to a members-only email newsletter, 12 exclusive fare sales per year, travel insurance for Ryanair flights, and free seat selection. Ryanair claims that members flying three times annually could save £105 ($136), leading to a net saving of £26. However, savings depend on booking during member-exclusive sales, which may not offer flexibility for frequent flyers.

Despite these offerings, some industry feedback suggests the coverage is inadequate. According to Which?, the travel insurance is described as "poor," and free seat selection is limited compared to easyJet Plus members' benefits.

In contrast to what was initially proposed under "Ryanair Choice" in 2019—intended as a competitor to easyJet's program—the current offering falls short. The initial proposal included perks like priority boarding and fast track security at a higher price point of £199/€199 ($258/$215).

Michael O'Leary, CEO of Ryanair, previously commented on loyalty programs saying: "I don’t see what the benefit is... We say every time you’re flying Ryanair you get a discount."

The launch raises questions about whether this initiative is more of a publicity move than an effort to provide substantial customer benefits.
