United Airlines Airbus A319 | Wikipedia

A United Airlines Airbus A319 experienced a diversion to Boise, Idaho, due to mechanical issues. This incident follows an earlier engine failure in Houston, Texas, involving the same aircraft.

The flight, UA2166, was traveling from San Francisco International Airport to Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport when it diverted on March 24th. The aircraft, registered as N837UA, landed in Boise at 14:24 local time. United Airlines dispatched another A319 from Hayden Yampa Valley Airport to continue the journey to Bozeman.

LiveATC audio records indicated that the A319 encountered an engine failure en route. Another aircraft, an Alaska Airlines Embraer E175 operated by Horizon Air, also faced problems landing in Boise and temporarily disabled one of the runways.

Earlier this year, on February 2nd, the same United Airlines A319 suffered an engine failure during takeoff from Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport for a flight to New York LaGuardia Airport. Videos on social media showed flames emerging from the engine before the aircraft halted on the runway.

The affected A319 returned to service on March 8th after repairs. The aircraft has been part of United Airlines' fleet since April 2001 and has accumulated significant flight hours and cycles over its operational life.

United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby has previously mentioned potential fleet reductions if demand decreases further. The airline's plans include retiring some older models by year-end.

No injuries were reported in either incident involving this particular Airbus A319.
