Greg Foran Chief Executive Officer | Air New Zealand

Te Rangitu Netana, a renowned tā moko artist with 35 years of experience, is collaborating with fashion designer Emilia Wickstead to create new uniform designs for Air New Zealand. Originally from Kaikohe in Aotearoa, Te Rangitu now resides in the UK, where he shares Māori culture through his art. His collaboration with Wickstead aims to incorporate powerful print designs into the airline's uniforms.

The partnership between Te Rangitu and Wickstead was facilitated by their shared experiences as Kiwis living abroad. Their connection has led to a creative synergy that is reflected in the uniform designs. Each print, crafted by Te Rangitu, is rooted in indigenous heritage and culture, aligning with Air New Zealand's values and instilling pride among those who wear it.

Air New Zealand Chief Executive Greg Foran expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration: "We are thrilled to partner with Te Rangitu on this new chapter of Air New Zealand's identity. The partnership between Te Rangitu and Emilia Wickstead perfectly embodies our commitment to reflecting the beauty and heritage of Aotearoa."

Te Rangitu Netana commented on the design process: "Although we can't share too much yet, there are many references within the print design to our Taiao (environment), including our maunga (mountains), awa (rivers), ngai kīrehe (fauna and ecology), and the narratives of our foundations."

Emilia Wickstead added her perspective: "I first met Te Rangitu five years ago and bringing him into this project was deeply important to me. His artistry and profound connection to te ao Māori have enriched every design element with cultural richness and storytelling."

This collaboration ensures that traditional Māori customs are respected while celebrating Aotearoa's cultural heritage. The new uniforms will be unveiled on April 11, 2025.
