Zhao Dong President of Xiamen Airlines | Xiamen Airlines

Amid the sessions of this year's National People's Congress and Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Zhao Dong, a member of the national committee of CPPCC and Chairman and Party Secretary of Xiamen Airlines, participated actively. His focus was on civil aviation development, cultural tourism, and cross-strait integration.

Zhao has consistently prioritized high-quality development in the civil aviation sector. This year, he emphasized cross-strait integrated development. The Party and state have tasked Fujian with exploring new paths for such integration. Since its inception, Xiamen Airlines has played a role in facilitating exchanges across the strait by launching direct flights and recruiting flight attendants from Taiwan since 2017. The airline also established a national demonstration site for cross-strait youth employment in 2018. According to Zhao, "the airline will continue to recruit professionals in cabin service, information technology, marketing, hotel management, and other fields in Taiwan." Xiamen Airlines plans to expand routes internationally while promoting efficient movement between Fujian and Taiwan.

Mazu culture holds significant value in cultural dissemination beyond China's coastal areas. Zhao noted that it has "forged a deep emotional bond among overseas Chinese." To promote Mazu culture globally, Xiamen Airlines undertakes transportation tasks for Mazu's visits abroad and collaborates with Putian City to enhance its international influence.

The domestic cultural tourism market is thriving. In 2024, domestic tourists' total consumption reached 5.75 trillion yuan. Zhao sees potential in new cultural tourism to boost domestic demand by exploring new IPs and optimizing vacation systems.

Xiamen Airlines supports sustainable development as an industry pioneer. It became the first airline to partner with the United Nations on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Zhao advocates for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) development by drawing on China's green electricity transformation model.

As 2025 marks a pivotal point between China's five-year plans, Zhao remains optimistic about civil aviation's future growth prospects under strong national policy support.
