Zhao Dong President of Xiamen Airlines | Xiamen Airlines

On March 10, 2025, Xiamen Airlines facilitated the transport of two Mazu statues on flight MF841 from Xiamen to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The statues were accompanied by a 29-member escort team and were destined for enshrinement at the Xin Xing Sheung Tai Temple and Lạc Hoà Thien Hau Temple in Vĩnh Châu, Vietnam.

Li Xi, a ground service staff member at Xiamen Airlines, was responsible for overseeing the safe transportation of the statues. He provided guidance to his colleagues during the careful loading process into the aircraft cabin. The airline organized a special coordination meeting two weeks prior to ensure a smooth journey for the statues and maintained communication with team leaders throughout.

The departure at Xiamen Airport saw significant preparations due to manual security checks required for the statues and the presence of numerous accompanying personnel. A dedicated check-in counter and exclusive waiting area were arranged, along with a green security channel and priority boarding services. This preparation allowed for "zero waiting time" during customs clearance.

The Mazu statues were placed in business class with extended seat belts and reinforced with red ropes to ensure stability during the flight. The escort team occupied nearby seats as part of this cultural mission across international borders.

Mazu is revered in Chinese culture as a symbol of virtue, kindness, and love, serving as an important cultural link for overseas Chinese communities. Zhao Dong, Party Secretary and Chairman of Xiamen Airlines, emphasized promoting traditional Chinese culture like Mazu culture during recent national legislative sessions.

Xiamen Airlines has been involved in promoting Mazu culture since 1997 when it transported a golden statue from Meizhou Island to Taiwan. Subsequent missions have included flights to Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand. These efforts reflect Xiamen Airlines' commitment to spreading Chinese culture globally through its air routes.

In future endeavors, Xiamen Airlines plans to continue promoting Mazu culture through themed flights and cultural tourism destinations aimed at enhancing identity among overseas Chinese.
