Archer Aviation has entered into an agreement with Ethiopian Airlines to deploy an initial fleet of its Midnight aircraft under the “Launch Edition” program. The deal with Africa’s largest carrier, valued at up to $30 million, seeks to establish an air taxi network in the region. Archer plans to support deployment with a team of pilots, technicians, and engineers.

The partnership will also look into other use cases, such as eco-tourism. This marks Ethiopian Airlines as Archer’s second customer to implement this program, following Abu Dhabi Aviation.

"Ethiopian Airlines, Africa’s largest carrier and a proud member of Star Alliance, operates an extensive global network, serving over 140 international destinations across five continents," the announcement stated.

Archer introduced the Launch Edition program in February 2025 to develop a scalable framework for deploying aircraft in early adopter markets. It aims to showcase the capabilities of its Midnight aircraft and build operational experience.

Archer is committed to providing backend software infrastructure and front-end booking applications to assist in urban air mobility operations during the program. The partnership aims to redefine travel in the region by exploring various advanced air mobility solutions.

Mesfin Tasew, Group CEO of Ethiopian Airlines, said, “We are committed to pioneering advanced air mobility solutions that enhance connectivity and drive sustainable aviation in Africa. Our partnership with Archer Aviation marks an important step in bringing cutting-edge eVTOL technology to Ethiopia.”

Archer’s CEO, Adam Goldstein, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “Last month we announced Abu Dhabi Aviation as our first Launch Edition customer—today we’re following that up with our second, Ethiopian Airlines."

Alastir Curtis, Archer’s General Manager for Africa, emphasized the transformative impact of the partnership in the region, noting, "At Archer, we’re committed to working with forward-thinking partners to unlock the potential of eVTOL technology to support the economic growth of Ethiopia."

Nathan Stickney, Commercial Attaché at the U.S. Embassy in Addis Ababa, remarked, “We’re excited at the opportunity for Archer to make an impact in the region while making America more prosperous through its new agreement with Ethiopian Airlines.”

Archer’s Midnight is designed for rapid, short-distance urban travel, aiming to replace lengthy car commutes with 10–20-minute electric air taxi flights.
