Cathay Pacific has launched the 2025 installment of its "I Can Fly" youth development program in Hong Kong, focusing on encouraging young people to explore aviation careers and engage with their communities. The program, which began today, has been restructured this year to emphasize education, discovery, and exploration, alongside social service activities. Approximately 2,000 youths aged 10 to 18 are expected to participate.

The launch featured I Can Fly Aviation Explorer Days, organized with support from the Hong Kong SAR Government's Strive and Rise program and various community partners. Over two days, 870 students from underprivileged backgrounds were given the chance to explore aviation, assisted by 70 Cathay volunteers. Patricia Hwang, Cathay Director People and Star Mentor for the government program, hosted Under Secretary for Transport and Logistics, Liu Chun-san, who honored the event.

Under Secretary Liu recognized the program's importance, saying: "Cathay’s I Can Fly programme is a meaningful initiative that not only broadens the participants' horizons, but also ignites their courage to pursue their aviation dreams. Quite a number of the locally trained pilots are also graduates of this programme, which is not just an ‘orientation course to aviation’, but also a ‘dream factory for aviation’.”

Patricia Hwang expressed her enthusiasm: “It gives me great pleasure to welcome all of our participating students to our Aviation Explorer Days as we kick off our flagship I Can Fly programme for 2025. We sincerely hope that their experiences will further ignite their passion for aviation.” She affirmed Cathay's dedication to youth development and community betterment.

Throughout the year, Cathay plans to run multiple Aviation Explorer Days exploring airport areas such as Cathay City and Cathay Cargo Terminal, with presentations on aviation history and career opportunities. The Education pillar includes the I Can Fly Youth Academy, a five-month training course, while the Discovery pillar offers a Discovery Flight later in the year.

Since its inception in 2003, the I Can Fly program has graduated over 4,400 students, many of whom have gone on to aviation careers. The initiative has been pivotal in nurturing talent and strengthening Hong Kong's status as an international aviation hub.
