Delta Air Lines will operate special charter flights to Normandy, France, as part of the 81st anniversary of D-Day and the Battle of Normandy. This year marks the fourth consecutive year that Delta will complete such flights, which are directed at supporting World War II veterans. Ed Bastian, Delta’s CEO, emphasized the significance of the Normandy Legacy Flight, saying, "It is our honor and privilege to continue this historic charter and week-long celebration as a journey of remembrance and gratitude dedicated to our World War II heroes."

Delta’s effort, in partnership with Best Defense Foundation and Michelin, will involve returning around 30 WWII veterans to Normandy. The program will also include ten students who will join the veterans in visiting historical sites such as the Freedom Prize ceremony in Caen.

The special charter flight will depart from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport to Deauville on May 31, with a return flight on June 9. The flight last year featured a Boeing 767-300ER with a commemorative decal celebrating the anniversary.

During their stay, veterans will attend several events commemorating the service members' sacrifice and fostering cross-cultural connections. Donnie Edwards of Best Defense Foundation expressed their commitment: “Each year, we remain committed to honoring the sacrifices of our WWII veterans by bringing them back to the battlefields where they served.”

Delta has integrated additional support through partnerships, like working with Aviramp to ensure accessible boarding for all veterans, regardless of mobility concerns. Additionally, caregivers from Delta’s Veterans Business Resource Group will assist on the journey.

Delta has a history of supporting military members, with 11% of its employees being veterans. The airline is known for facilitating access to opportunities for veterans, including through partnerships with the USO and other veteran-support organizations. These initiatives are part of Delta’s long-standing dedication to honoring and supporting military personnel and veterans.
