Linhas Aéreas de Angola, commonly known as TAAG Angola Airlines, is planning to establish a new route between Angola and Houston, Texas, by 2027. This information comes from Ishrion Aviation, following the airline's recent addition of a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner to its fleet.

According to the report, the airline's service to Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) will likely commence from Luanda's Quatro de Fevereiro International Airport (LAD). Currently, there are no direct flights between these two locations.

The launch of this service will occur after Angola secures a Category 1 rating from the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This rating would permit Angolan carriers to begin or maintain services to the US and engage in codeshare arrangements with US airlines.

The anticipated route covers a distance of 6,636 nautical miles (12,289 km). TAAG plans to use its newly acquired Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner for this long-haul flight. The delivery of this aircraft supports the airline's strategy to modernize its fleet. TAAG Angola Airlines CEO Nelson Rodrigues stated, “The delivery of the 787-9 is a pivotal step in our strategy to modernize TAAG Angola Airlines’ fleet. This airplane brings the efficiency and versatility we need to meet growing market demands, replace our aging widebody fleet, and deliver a world-class experience to our passengers.”

The new Dreamliner, registered as D2-TEQ, has a three-class cabin layout, accommodating 313 passengers in total—16 in business class, 21 in premium economy, and 276 in economy class. It arrives at TAAG under a sale and leaseback agreement with AerCap.

TAAG currently has 26 aircraft in its fleet, which includes a variety of models from Boeing, De Havilland, and Airbus. Its average fleet age is 13.2 years. The airline has a significant presence in both domestic and international markets, featuring services to Latin America and Europe. Its destinations include São Paulo, Brazil, Havana, Cuba, and several European cities such as Lisbon, Frankfurt, Madrid, Barcelona, and Brussels.

TAAG's long-haul flights typically utilize their Boeing 777 aircraft, offering a variety of seating class configurations.
