Airbus A340 | Wikipedia

Airbus is widely known for its commercial airplanes, such as the A320 and A380 series. It also has a segment for corporate jets, known as Airbus Corporate Jets (ACJ), which competes with Boeing Business Jets. Leveraging its expertise, Airbus has developed some of the world's largest private jets. Currently, Airbus produces the ACJ TwoTwenty, ACJneo, ACJ330neo, and ACJ350 corporate jets. One older variant is the ACJ340, based on the commercial A340 wide-body jet.

The ACJ340 belongs to the A340 family, recognized for long-range commercial aircraft. The ACJ version utilizes the design's space and range, transforming it into a luxurious private jet. The ACJ340 can accommodate different cabin layouts, tailored for its owners' preferences, with configurations for up to 100 passengers, suitable for corporate or VIP travel.

A significant attraction of the ACJ family, including the ACJ340, is the size. Compared to competitors, ACJ aircraft offer larger interiors and exteriors. The ACJ340 shares dimensions with the commercial A340, featuring a wingspan of 208 ft 2 in, a length of 222 ft 10 in, and a height of 57 ft 6 in. The fuselage is 18 ft 6 in wide, and it has a wheelbase of 90 ft 6 in.

The ACJ340 utilizes 177 ft 2 in of its length for the interior, with a width of 17 ft 4 in and a cabin height of 7 ft 11 in. It provides a usable floor area adaptable for luxury furnishings. One of its appealing features is the spacious interior, comparable to flying in a penthouse, accommodating features like conference rooms, private offices, bedrooms, dining areas with galleys, and lounges with in-flight entertainment.

“The fuselage's large length and width allow for versatile layouts,” offering private offices, bedrooms, dining areas, and lounges. The ACJ340 offers customizable cabin configurations, allowing owners to choose interior designs according to personal styles. “New owners can also opt for other luxury interior designers,” including Andrew Winch Designs, Pierrejean Design Studio, and more.

Unlike newer jets, the ACJ340 has four Rolls-Royce Trent 556 engines, providing a speed of Mach 0.86. It has an operating ceiling of 41,000 ft, a range of 9,900 nautical miles, and accommodates a maximum takeoff weight of 837,800 lb. The ACJ340 stands out for its space, luxury, and range, differentiating it within the business jet market.

The ACJ340's service and maintenance benefit from Airbus's network of maintenance centers. “ACJ aircraft even operate in Antarctica,” ensuring access to necessary resources. Despite not being produced anymore, “the ACJ340 finds itself in competition,” mainly with Bombardier, Gulfstream, and Boeing Business Jets, offering unique space and personalization.

Though the ACJ340 is no longer manufactured, its legacy continues. As “one of the ultimate status symbols in the sky,” it remains a luxury item for the elite.
