An American Airlines flight traveling from New York to Tokyo was redirected to Dallas/Fort Worth after it commenced its journey across the Pacific Ocean. The Boeing 787-9, registered as N829AN, left New York's JFK Airport on flight AA167 on March 31, heading for Tokyo Haneda Airport. According to Flightradar24, the aircraft turned back toward the US due to a mechanical issue after entering Pacific airspace.

A post on Reddit from a passenger highlighted the situation, mentioning that the captain informed everyone about the maintenance issue. The flight landed in Dallas after several hours, with accommodations and meal vouchers provided to passengers as their flight to Tokyo was rescheduled for April 1.

An American Airlines spokesperson confirmed the diversion was due to "a maintenance issue," with assurances that passengers were well accommodated. "We never want to disrupt our customers' travel plans, and we are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused," the spokesperson stated.

Flight AA167 will continue its journey using another Boeing 787-9, registered as N830AN. This aircraft was arriving from a flight between Sao Paulo and Dallas at the time of the diversion incident.

This flight was one of five American Airlines schedules from the US to Tokyo on March 31, with all except AA167 successfully landing at Tokyo's airports.
