Delta Air Lines recently marked its 100th anniversary with a new safety demonstration video, highlighting its historical journey through air travel. The video, entitled "A Hundred Years of Safety," features Delta employees in period-accurate uniforms and includes a special appearance by "Deltalina," the flight attendant who gained fame in Delta's 2008 safety video.

Katherine Lee-Hinton, known as Deltalina, rose to national fame with her memorable performance in Delta's original video. She is recognized for her "assertive yet sexy" presentation style, particularly her famous finger wag when stating, "Smoking is not allowed on any Delta flight." Forbes contributor Grant Martin praised the shift in safety video presentations, attributing much of their success to Deltalina's appeal.

Deltalina, born in Germany in the mid-1970s, moved to the Atlanta area in the early 1990s and joined Delta in 1997. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution highlights her as a passionate traveler who fulfilled her ambition by becoming a flight attendant. Lee-Hinton still works at Delta as a flight attendant instructor and occasionally serves on flights.

Several airlines have adopted innovative safety videos to create engaging experiences. Virgin America, for example, launched a popular animated video in 2007. Air New Zealand's Hobbit-themed safety video, praised for its creativity, exemplifies airlines' efforts to effectively communicate safety information while enhancing brand image.

Historically, flight attendants have played a crucial role in passenger safety, demonstrating procedures and handling emergencies. While their roles have evolved, flight attendants remain vital in ensuring safe air travel for millions of passengers.
