The Cathay Group is set to enhance travel options between Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland this summer by offering nearly 300 return flights weekly during the peak period. This expansion aims to strengthen Cathay's direct services while addressing the increasing demand for travel between the Chinese Mainland and the global market.

Cathay Chief Customer and Commercial Officer Lavinia Lau stated, “We are delighted to be expanding our flight schedule in the Chinese Mainland this summer with services to 20 passenger destinations and increased frequencies on many of our popular routes. With our unique position of having deep roots in Hong Kong, being proudly part of China, and connecting the world, we are committed to providing a seamless travel experience for our customers whether they are flying to, from or via our home hub.”

The airline's focus targets the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei and Yangtze River Delta regions, key strategic areas in China. Cathay will reinforce flight capacities and schedules to offer frequent connections to Beijing and Shanghai throughout the day. Other major cities in the Chinese Mainland will also see increased flight frequencies to meet the needs of both leisure and business travelers.

Cathay plans to increase the number of return flights to Beijing Capital International Airport to seven daily, alongside a daily flight to Beijing Daxing International Airport operated by HK Express, totaling 56 weekly return flights to Beijing. Shanghai routes will see a rise to eight daily return flights to Pudong, with an additional 11 return flights weekly to Hongqiao, resulting in 67 weekly flights between Hong Kong and Shanghai.

The airline will also increase flight frequencies to Zhengzhou, Ningbo, Haikou, and Chongqing, shifting from four weekly return flights to daily operations. HK Express will also offer daily flights to Ningbo. Flights to Hangzhou, Nanjing, Wenzhou, and Wuhan will see increased frequency as well.

A new direct route connecting Hong Kong and Urumqi is set to launch on April 28. Together, Cathay and HK Express aim to operate close to 300 return flights per week during the summer peak, representing almost a 40% increase compared to 2024.

Besides bolstering connectivity with the Chinese Mainland, Cathay is expanding its global network in 2025 to over 100 destinations, reinforcing Hong Kong's role as a major international aviation hub. The new destinations include Hyderabad, Dallas, Urumqi, Rome, Munich, and Brussels for Cathay Pacific, alongside Sendai, Nha Trang, Ishigaki, Komatsu, Cheongju, Daegu, and Miyako (Shimojishima) for HK Express.
