Hainan Airlines has announced the launch of a new weekly direct flight between London and Haikou, set to commence on May 7, 2025. The announcement was made on the social media platform X on March 5.

According to the China-Britain Business Council, this new direct international route aims to strengthen air links between the United Kingdom and China, supporting bilateral trade, tourism, and academic exchange. The service will operate once a week from London Heathrow to Haikou Meilan International Airport, thereby expanding travel options for passengers in both markets.

As reported by AeroRoutes, the route will be serviced by a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner equipped with 30 business class seats and 262 economy seats. The outbound flight is scheduled to depart London at 22:00 local time and arrive in Haikou at 17:05 Beijing time the following day. The return flight will leave Haikou at 13:40 and land in London at 19:30 local time, offering consistent scheduling for long-haul travelers.

Travel And Tour World states that this new flight reflects Hainan Airlines’ broader effort to expand its global footprint and respond to growing travel demand between Europe and southern China. Haikou, the capital of Hainan Province, is developing as a tourism hub with visa-free entry for many nationalities. The added route is expected to attract more international tourists to Hainan while providing improved outbound access to Europe for Chinese travelers.

Founded in 1993 and headquartered in Haikou, Hainan Airlines is one of China’s largest carriers, operating extensive domestic and international routes. Known for its service excellence, it has earned SKYTRAX five-star status multiple times. The airline serves regions across Asia, North America, Europe, and Oceania with a fleet that includes Boeing 787 Dreamliners and Airbus A330s.
