Airlines operating the Boeing 787 Dreamliner variants are set to have an average of 1,160 long-haul flights daily in April, according to Cirium Diio data. The popularity of the aircraft is evident as more than one in four long-haul services will be conducted using the 787, with its usage exceeding that of the Airbus A350, which commenced service in 2015.

The 787 Dreamliner is also prominent on new routes, with American Airlines employing the 787-8 on the Chicago-Madrid route and Royal Jordanian using the same variant between Amman and Washington Dulles. The 787-9 is used by Gulf Air for its new Bahrain to London Gatwick service, and by Virgin Atlantic on its Toronto route.

United Airlines plans to operate the 787-9 between San Francisco and Adelaide this December and will begin using it for the Hong Kong to Bangkok and Ho Chi Minh City routes in October.

The 787's routes in April feature significant activity, with the Los Angeles to Tokyo Haneda route leading in volume. Last year, the second spot was occupied by London Heathrow to Delhi, but this month it has fallen to eighth place. This reduction is attributed to Vistara's exit due to its merger with Air India, which has concentrated more on the A350-900, and changes in British Airways' aircraft deployment.

Top routes with 90 or more one-way flights include Los Angeles to Tokyo Haneda, Bogotá to Madrid, Chicago O'Hare to London Heathrow, Los Angeles to Tokyo Narita, and Singapore to Tokyo Narita. These routes all exceed a distance of 2,650 nautical miles.

In comparison with last year, four routes that didn't make the cut in April 2024—Jakarta to Tokyo Narita, Tel Aviv to Newark, Tel Aviv to New York JFK, and Tokyo Haneda to Sydney—are now included. Notably, Dreamliner flights between Jakarta and Narita have increased from 47 to 90 one-way flights due to additional flights by Japan Airlines. Conversely, the London Heathrow to San Francisco route has seen a reduction in Dreamliner services, with Virgin Atlantic decreasing its frequency from 90 to 33 one-way flights.
