Private aviation in the United States has continued to flourish, posting solid figures even post-pandemic. In 2024, the US saw over 3 million private jet flights, marking a slight decline from the previous year's figures but still showing growth compared to 2019. Despite the overall downturn, several airports have experienced significant increases in private jet operations, shedding light on changing travel preferences among affluent travelers.

In Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) recorded a 2.6% increase in private jet departures, totaling 19,345 in 2024. The airport's proximity to both downtown Fort Lauderdale and Miami makes it a preferred choice for wealthy travelers in the region. This airport stands out as the second-busiest airport in terms of operations in the area.

Similarly, San Antonio International Airport (SAT) in Texas saw a noticeable uptick in private jet activity with a 3.5% year-over-year increase, reaching 18,227 departures. Its northern location from downtown San Antonio makes it a favorable choice for travelers seeking efficient transport. Beyond private aviation, SAT also manages significant commercial flights for the city.

Naples Airport (APF) in Florida, noted for its exclusive general and private aviation use, saw the steepest rise in private jet flights in the state, with a 3.7% increase, totaling over 24,900 departures in 2024. The airport offers limited semi-private services and has a history of fluctuating commercial presence in favor of nearby alternate destinations like Southwest Florida International Airport.

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) in Austin, Texas, also showcased a significant 4.9% increase in private jet operations, amounting to 22,438 departures. Its historical conversion from a military Air Force base to a public airport now supports both private and commercial activities in the area.

San Jose Mineta International Airport (SJC) in California topped the increase in private jet activity with a 6.0% year-over-year rise, totaling 18,110 departures. SJC benefits from its strategic location, catering not only to San Jose but also the surrounding Santa Clara Valley, attracting a substantial clientele from the Bay Area's affluent sector.

The trends in private aviation reflect shifting demands as more travelers opt for the exclusivity and convenience private jets offer, driving growth in certain regional airports despite a broader industry hiccup.
