Gulfstream G550 | Wikipedia

Elon Musk, known for spearheading companies like Tesla and SpaceX and as the richest individual globally with a net worth of $342.9 billion as of March 2025, maintains an extensive private jet collection. This fleet includes several Gulfstream jets tailored to his rigorous professional endeavors.

Initially acquiring piloting skills in 2002 with a Piper Meridian and the L-39 Albatros, Musk enjoyed flying these planes until 2008, when increased business commitments and family concerns steered him towards employing professional pilots. Musk remarked to Fortune magazine, “It's probably the most fun plane I've ever flown….You can do eight Gs in that plane. Literally, it was just like in Top Gun.”

Musk's current fleet is centered around business jets beginning with the Gulfstream G550, acquired in 2003, and expanding over the years with more jets like the Gulfstream G550 (N272BG) and Gulfstream G650ER. A Gulfstream G700 is also on order, indicating ongoing ambitions for further luxurious and high-tech enhancements. Each aircraft plays a role in supporting varied travel needs from local to international reach, as detailed in “The Space Barons” and other sources.

In a statement from Gulfstream President Mark Burns, certification challenges have delayed the G700's delivery to 2025, "[...] the start of 2024 has been somewhat turbulent following changes to certification policies and the introduction of the 'most rigorous certification program in company history.'"

Musk's jet fleet evolution signifies his growth from a tech visionary to a leading global figure, demonstrating a continual commitment to performance and innovation.
