Mark Galardo Air Canada’s Executive Vice President, Revenue & Network Planning and President, Cargo | Air Canada

Air Canada is set to introduce new seasonal flights connecting Montreal to Edinburgh, with operations scheduled from June 26 to September 6. The Canadian airline plans to operate this route thrice weekly on Monday, Thursday, and Saturday using Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, offering both premium economy and economy seating. This route complements the existing services from Toronto to Edinburgh.

Mark Galardo, Air Canada's Executive Vice President of Revenue and Network Planning and President of Cargo, noted the added travel options between Scotland and Canada. He remarked on the attractions in Scotland, emphasizing the ease of access for travelers from Montreal.

This development marks the resumption of flights from Montreal to Scotland since 2016, when Air Transat offered flights to Glasgow. The distance between Montreal and Edinburgh is 4,880 kilometers, well within the 737 MAX 8's range of 6,480 km.

In addition to the Montreal-Edinburgh route, Air Canada is set to increase its service to European destinations, including Athens, Paris, and Rome. Galardo commented on the airline's commitment to supporting tourism and connecting people, stating, "At Air Canada, we are proud to support tourism as well as connect people visiting friends and family."

Two new weekly flights from Toronto to Athens and additional flights to Paris and Rome are planned, boosting the airline's European network by 25 weekly frequencies in July. This expansion includes routes that were not in service in July 2024.

Amidst these expansions, Air Canada, along with other Canadian carriers, is adjusting capacities to the United States due to shifts in travel dynamics attributed to trade tensions. The airline acknowledged a slight drop in the transborder market while maintaining strong bookings to the US. Consequently, Air Canada has adjusted some capacity based on demand trends.

Airlines from both Canada and the US have increased transborder flights, adding 210 weekly flights in July compared to the previous year. Most airlines, barring Flair Airlines and Sun Country Airlines, which reduced a few weekly flights, have contributed to this increase.

The evolving travel landscape continues to influence airline strategies, with projections and schedules subject to adjustments as airlines respond to changing demand.
