Trenton-Mercer Airport | Wikipedia

Trenton-Mercer Airport has become a key player for residents between New York City and Philadelphia looking for budget flights to Florida. Currently, Frontier Airlines is the sole airline operating at the airport, providing four scheduled routes to Florida during April. These flights offer an alternative to larger airports in the region.

Trenton-Mercer is recognized as "one of only three commercial airports in New Jersey," with "approximately 85,000 take-offs and landings each year," according to the airport. Its economic significance is emphasized in the contribution of jobs and substantial economic inputs to the local area. Formerly known as Mercer County Airport, this facility has served since 1929 and is currently the third-busiest in New Jersey.

While Trenton-Mercer was previously utilized by multiple airlines, since 2018, Frontier has been the only remaining carrier after Allegiant Air exited. Despite this, the airport accommodates diverse users, including Fortune 100 companies and state services. Trenton officials note, "The aviation units of numerous Fortune 100 companies, a corporate terminal and repair base, the U.S. Customs Service, the New Jersey State Police, and the New Jersey National Guard are also located at the airport."

Frontier Airlines emphasizes its philosophy: "Frontier believes travel should be for everyone and is committed to delivering on its motto 'Low Fares Done Right.'" Frontier benefits from Trenton as it faces "no competition from bigger airlines" and avoids "limited airport slots."

Current scheduled flights through the cooperation between Frontier and Trenton-Mercer include Orlando, Tampa, Palm Beach, and Southwest Florida. Additionally, Charlotte, Raleigh-Durham, and Fort Myers flights operate seasonally. The total number of seats offered in April reaches 54,312.

The airport plans to expand with a new terminal, which "will quadruple the size of the existing terminal" and feature modern amenities and more gates. The new terminal is projected to enhance passenger capacity significantly, forecasting "476,507 passengers in 2035" with these improvements.

In conclusion, Trenton-Mercer, as the base for Frontier Airlines, presents an essential travel hub particularly for regional connections to Florida. Its development projects aim to expand capacity and amenities, aligning with its role as an economic engine in the area.
